7 steps to turn your Board Selector into a personalized A.I. advisory team that actually knows your business.

You've picked your board. Now make it work for you. A Custom GPT is a personalized version of ChatGPT that knows your business, your goals, and your advisors — and gives you focused advice instead of generic answers. You only have to set this up once. Then you can use it every week.

LOG IN TO CHATGPT & GO TO “EXPLORE GPTs”

Go to chat.openai.com and log in. In the left sidebar, click Explore GPTs, then click the + Create button in the top right. You'll need a ChatGPT Plus account ($20/mo) to create and save custom GPTs.

NAME YOUR GPT + ADD A DESCRIPTION

Click Configure at the top of the builder. Give your GPT a name you'll recognize — something like "My A.I. Board of Directors" or "[Your Business] Advisory Board". Add a short description: "A personalized advisory board that gives me focused, practical business advice."

PASTE IN YOUR INSTRUCTIONS

In the Instructions field, paste this prompt — then customize the bracketed parts with your actual board selections:

  • You are a roundtable of 8 advisors: [your picks]. Each brings their distinct perspective.
  • You know my business: [business name], [what I sell], [who I serve], [what makes me different].
  • Challenge me. Don't just agree with me. Ask clarifying questions when needed.
  • End every response with: Board Consensus and Your Next Clear Move.

UPLOAD YOUR COMPLETED BOARD SELECTOR (PAGE 1)

Scroll down to Knowledge and click Upload files. Upload a PDF of your completed Page 1 with your board selections filled in. This gives your GPT a permanent reference for your chosen advisors and their roles.

Tip: Print Page 1 to PDF first, fill in your selections, save it, then upload that version.

SET CAPABILITIES + SAVE

Under Capabilities, leave Web Search on if you want your board to reference current info. Toggle off anything you don't need. When ready, click Save in the top right and choose Only me for privacy. Your GPT is now live.

TEST IT WITH ONE REAL PROBLEM

Open your new GPT and ask it something real — not hypothetical. Check that it references your business correctly, reflects your advisor personalities, and gives you a clear next move. If it feels generic, go back to Step 3 and add more specific business context.

USE IT WEEKLY — BRING ONE REAL QUESTION

Block 15 minutes once a week. Bring one real decision, challenge, or idea. Your board works best when you're specific — "Should I raise my prices by 20%?" beats "Help me with pricing." The more context you give, the sharper the advice.
